The archival (left portion) of this shot is circa 1915-1920 when the memorial was under original construction. A memorial was originally planned as early as 1867, but as with the Washington Monument politics and money got in the way for decades. Eventually the Lincoln Memorial began construction in 1914 and was dedicated in 1922. It is consistently ranked as one of America’s favorite pieces of architecture.
